Functioning Speaker Playing You got time and I got money by Smerz
Design Reasoning
Drawing inspiration from Dunne and Raby’s Hertzian Tales, I set out to design a speaker that utilizes its electromagnetic field as a means of aesthetic. The open-frame enclosure allows the speaker to visually express the presence of electromagnetic activity. These free wires and PCB act as a sculptural representation of the invisible energy radiating from within. The image in Fig. 1 showcases the hidden visuals of EM fields from electronic object.
In an era when digital technologies are increasingly miniaturized, seamless, and designed to disappear, this speaker packages electronics as both structure and spectacle.
